"HEAVEN IS INSIDE US" 2006 - 2009
Series Overview & Concept
"Heaven is Inside of Us" is a deeply reflective series that symbolizes a profound journey into the core of ourselves.
Moving away from the traditional concept of paradise as a distant destination, Gastón Charó challenges the viewer to look inward.
The characters features breathtaking skies painted directly onto their bodies, visually demonstrating that the heaven we look for outside is, in reality, something we all already have within ourselves.
Through this imagery, the artist wants to remember the eternity of being and the ephemerality of the body (represented by the clock pieces) that lives inside us, creating an intimate dialogue between physical time and immortal spirit.
The Metaphor of the Chessboard
In this collection, the chessboard represents the journey of life itself. Here, black and white are opposites that complement each other—much like the Yin and Yang—needing each other to make complete sense.
We are human beings moving like chess pieces through life. While our attitudes and opportunities show us the way, our decisions will ultimately be the ones to make us win the match of this beautiful game: “The game of life.”
